Whose behind the business

Anne Fairbrother & Ian Riley

We asked Anne what she likes about Brixton…

1. What makes Brixton special?

Attitude, atmosphere. People who make change. Where else can you buy a giant land snail, a purple wig, local honey, fine wine and meet the best ginger cat?

3. What’s your favourite local landmark?

Ginger the market cat, followed closely by Brixton Windmill. A reminder of the tangible links Londeners once had to agriculture & food production. And it’s milling again for the first time in 80 years!

2. Which 3 local places would you recommend and why?

The Windmill Pub for old school Brixton, roof dog and curious intimate gigs
The hidden garden in Brockwell Park, changing through the seasons, always a lovely oasis
Brixi, I love everything about this little curiosity shop in Brixton Village.

4. Your personal soundtrack for Brixton and why?

Alabama 3, Exile Down Coldharbour lane – the best soundtrack to Brixton or Brixton that was.
African Head Charge – most things on ONU Sounds. Early days in Brixton..

About the business

We are Brixton Village and Market Row traders - Cornercopia Homestore

Cornercopia’s homestore sells useful, beautiful and curious things for the home as well as a small selection of local foods handmade made by us and other locals – including marmalade made with herbs from out garden And honey from Brixton bees. We can make up pretty special local hampers. There is plenty of cookware, from enamel pie tins to wooden utensils and cast iron pots. There are things for measuring, things for preserving, things for the mycologist, baker and forager.

Like our larder, the homeware shop is seasonal with things like garden tools & seeds in the spring, BBQ and outside gear for the summer and in the winter wooly draft excluders, chestnut roasters and lambswool throws. There is a growing selection of things by local designer makers – from denim aprons, to hand carved spoons and ceramics.
