There are 83 businesses in Brixton Village and 45 in Market Row, of all shapes and sizes. We offer something for everyone!
There is a real diverse mix of businesses here. For the most part small and independent, some of us have started here and thanks to all our customers have been able to grow so now you’ll see us popping up in other neighbourhoods in London. Some of us have been trading here for well over twenty years.
Fresh food, fresh produce, beauty, grooming, jewellery, clothing, household, art, music, medicinal, devotional; read more below about the different categories.
Visitors really are spoilt for choice, you can buy the ingredients for a great meal, or the materials for your next fashion or artistic creation, or you can come here for the finished product – a great meal with friends, or your new outfit for that special occasion! Whatever the time of day you’ll have a great experience. Perhaps a morning coffee and quiet chat with friends, or a business meeting, or stocking up on the necessities. Alternatively soak up the atmosphere on a weekend evening when everyone is sitting outside at packed tables and the music is playing.
The markets are home to entrepreneurs, educators, mentors, charity workers, therapists, designers, artists and providers of vital goods, services and home comforts to the local communities in and around Brixton – Afro-Caribbean, Latin American, European, and Asian.
For traders, Brixton Village and Market Row is the kind of place where you can try out your idea, refine it, test out what works and what doesn’t, and get meaningful feedback from customers and neighbouring businesses.
We’ve made it easy for you
To make it easy it for you we’ve split up our businesses into the categories below.

Brew
Coffee shop culture is such an integral part of our markets. Sit back and chill, enjoying freshly roasted beans in your flat white or a crisp mint tea. Or you might prefer a proper mug of builder’s tea with you set breakfast or even a chilli hot chocolate or fresh detox juice. These moments to chill are precious and delicious too.

Eats
There is a myriad of independent restaurants within the markets. From Japanese Osaka-style okonomiyaki street food, Ghanian classics to sourdough pizzas, fresh burgers to halloumi wraps; you can eat your way around the world!

Fresh
A whole heap of fresh produce is sold daily. Brixton Village and Market Row are long standing community markets that sell a selection of fresh fish, meat, spices, fruit and vegetables from across the globe. Buy yams or oysters, pig’s trotters or okra, dried shrimp or zaatar! All your essentials are here, and then all those ingredients you never knew you liked but now can’t live without.

Grooves
Vibrant music echoes around the avenues of our markets daily. From live music to an established record shop that offers the rarest of grooves; live DJ’s to the singing of the Taco man in his sombrero. Every month, our in-house events team will bring the outdoor area of the market to life with great entertainment, gigs, DJ’s and performance. Our sounds will make you tap your feet as you enjoy our market experience.

Liquor
Of course it’s not just your morning cuppa or coffee! There is huge selection of alcoholic drinks available in the markets too. From a watermelon martini to a fizzy kiss, or a cold beer to a glass of Amontillado Sacromonte sherry from Valdivia an amazing selection awaits.

Manor
Many Londoners refer to their home area as their ‘manor’. It’s a not so well kept secret that Brixton is home to London’s only working windmill! Hence we have used a windmill icon to denote all homeware, furniture, lighting and anything homeward bound to come under its sails. Find mid-century nested tables or red and cream pots and pans, wonderful tea towels to Scotty dog lighting; the spirit of our independent traders’ selections will add something unique to your manor.

Quirky
The pet shop parrot that for years entertained those visiting the market is our symbol for quirky … he was! In a nod to the market of old, quirky represents anything else within your market shopping experience; those objects that even we can’t easily categorise. Items you don’t need but cannot live without. Made by independent artists you can bring home such delights from high rise or typographic prints, to a stuffed lassie dog or Christmas critters to milk bottles. It’s got to be done.

Retro
We love retro and all things vintage. You can pick up many goodies from a set of cups and saucers to hanging baskets; or an upcycled Jesus light to a 1950’s bar. Our boutiques in the market are perfect for original and unique pieces from the 20th century to the present day.

Sketch
Brixton has long been a creative and artistic hub for London. From music hall and film stars of old, to the wonderful graffiti, artists and musicians of today. We embrace this spirit in our markets; from local artists showing their work, to original Picasso prints; handmade cards to large retro and contemporary paintings, the selection is as creative and unique as our space.

Sweet
You may still want more, or have a sweet tooth, or a hankering for desert. In which case, no need to panic! From homemade chocolate brownies to salted caramel gelato or Oreo vegan cupcakes to a Japanese green tea sorbet or a quarter of lemon bonbons, we’re sure we can help you hit the spot.

Threads
Brixton’s sense of creativity and expression extends to fashion and style – fabrics, clothing, jewellery, shoes and bags. From colourful African cloth to delicate vintage French pieces, bespoke couture to trainers and super bright athletic wear, Brixton Village and Market Row are both full of wonderful independent boutiques that weave colour through the avenues of the market.
